What is a Graphic Illustrator, you ask?
"Graphic illustrators come with a skillset involving drawing, painting, art history, digital illustration, business and marketing. They require both artistic skill and creative thinking necessary to communicate abstract concepts simply and effectively." Colette Pomerleau, "Graphic Illustration and the Difference Between Design and Illustration." 99Designs.com 2019 |
Hello! My name is Cameron (not Carmen, Karen or Cam)…...just Cameron! When I am not working as a full-time Graphic Illustrator, you can find me map-making or creating surface pattern designs.
My journey started in an artsy household with a super creative family. When I was a kid, I'd tag along with my dad to his work, grabbing his sharp colored pencils to meticulously shade the heights of his architectural drawings. Making sure those shades were spot-on became my thing. Meanwhile, my mom owned a fabric store, and even though I was too young to sew, I was all about those patterns. Armed with my lefty scissors, I'd cut fabric and turn a shoe box into a tiny village masterpiece. Each box with coordinating patterns, textures, and colors, satisfying my love for design. I also loved my Crayola watercolor set, painting classic stuff like trees and flowers. Those paint-by-numbers sets were my launching pad for my own artistic creations. It felt like every bit of free time was devoted to my creative adventures. After graduating from Arizona State University with an Arts degree, I loved every class I took. I went on to paint murals in homes and create custom portraits of dogs and houses. But then, the computer world pulled me in, and I found myself working in a marketing studio where Adobe Creative Suite became my go-to sidekick. In that studio, I got to create all sorts of marketing materials—wine labels, CD covers, shampoo boxes, posters, t-shirts, logos, you name it. With more than 20 years of graphic design expertise and a clientele spanning from the U.P. to California, I enjoy turning someone's vision into a reality. Whether it's crafting a fresh logo for a coffee shop, designing an illustrated wedding invitation, creating a mouthwatering menu for an ice cream spot, or designing cozy cottage wallpaper, I always find a way to apply my skills and bring ideas to life.
